De-Matting POLICY
The Animal Welfare Act 2006, states it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal, and this includes prolonged de-matting.
If you bring your dog to our salon with more than 15 minutes de-matting work, we are required by the Act to clip your dog short humanely or refer you to your vet to do the same.
At Coastal K9 Cuts we believe that humanity over rides vanity, and if we feel that it is kinder to remove the coat that it is to try and de-matt.
Matting can be prevented by daily brushing with a slicker brush and comb, regular grooming sessions.
When a dog’s coat becomes matted, it can cause severe discomfort to your dog.
When a matted coat is clipped short, it may reveal sore, reddened/ irritated skin. This is usually because matt’s have prevented the skin from being able to breath and air circulation has not been restored properly.
Whilst we will make every effort to identify matting in pre groom consultations there may be occasions where the degree of matting cannot be fully identified until the groom as commenced.
In this event we will make every effort to contact you However, In the event that we are unable to reach you, and feel that it is kinder to remove the coat than it is to de-matt, this will be done in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
The need to clip a matted coat will be taken in the best interest of the dog and will incur further charges above the groom price due to the skill needed to remove matt’s and the extra time taken along with the additional wear and tear on our equipment.
